How To Host Volunteer

How it all started?
The husband and I have a new business in Kg. Giching, Salak Tinggi, Sepang, Selangor. His family land was converted into an event space. We rent out zone out the area into camping area, event venue, homestay mixed with agriculture.

We call our new venture as PUDGi (pronounce pad-ji). After PUDGi has established its goals and visions, we decided to invite volunteer from overseas due to:

1. To receive ideas from travelers as most of them are.
2. To promote our place thru them
3. Cost factor

Where we get our volunteer.
We register our company with www.workaway.info  adn after putting our info we started to receive e-mails inquiring about volunteering at our place. It was easy and fast.

How do we check them?
We asked for profile and their social media profile like facebook, blog or instagram. We only take who we felt comfortable with.

Gender
I prefer girl because I'm here most of time. Easy communication and easy for me to jaga aurat.

Duration
We normally leave it to them. Longest is two months and shortest is a week. Sometime we are just a stop in between travelling or last stop before going home.

What we provide?
Volunteering is an exchange for roof (some plus food) and job. For PUDGi, we need extra hand to man our Kedai Buku and also our garden. From time to time we need someone to help us when there is event like camping, family day, sport day etc. This is when we call them.

What they do?
Whatever we asked them to basically. We don't have fix working hour however the website stated that volunteers only work for five hours a day. Sometimes they work longer hour or sometimes none at all. We received one review saying we did not provide enough job.

Will PUDGi continue having volunteer?
Yes, we will. Not only it is cheap to have them, but I enjoy the cultural learning experience. I would never thought to meet Romanian! They are not dracula. I never knew German are funny or a down to earth French girl. This experience I will never had if we did not open our door to these people.

Last tips, always be open. Discuss what you have and do not over promise. Keep an open mind and enjoy the conversations.

Cheers!

Cindy on 1st Hari Raya.
